FAQ
How does your pickup and delivery work?
I own an inexpensive knife set, is it worth it to have them sharpened?
Yes, even inexpensive knives are worth sharpening. For $10 or less, any knife sharpened by Kwik Sharp will be as good or better than new. A good quality knife is always a good investment though, they have superb weight and balance and excellent durability as well as holding an edge longer. They will last more than a lifetime of use with good care.
How often do I need to sharpen my knives?
Knives should be honed before every use with a steel or leather strop to keep them in good condition. We generally recommend a professional sharpening once every 6-12 months for busy home cooks but it’s entirely dependent on usage, maintenance, storage, and the hardness of the steel.
A simple home sharpener can extend your blade’s edge at moderate sharpness for some time but eventually a professional touch-up will be required to return it to perfectly sharp. While times may vary on the need for sharpening you will simply know yourself by performance when that time is at hand.
Do you sharpen serrated or ceramic blades?
We sharpen all types of serrated steel blades by hand with a diamond hone. This applies to single-sided serrations only, with one side of the blade serrated and the other side flat. We may not be able to sharpen double-sided serrations or micro-serrations found in some steak knives. I can assess these in-person and let you know.
We do not sharpen ceramic knives.
Do you sharpen lawn mowers or chain saws?
I do not sharpen lawn mower blades or chain saws. Most small engine repair or tool rental locations offer this service.
What’s the difference between honing and sharpening?
Honing realigns the existing edge of a knife, while sharpening creates an entirely new edge by removing material. Both methods can improve the performance of a knife, but sharpening is the only option for renewing a completely dull blade. Hone your knives regularly to keep the existing blade aligned and greatly extend the need for sharpening.
What methods of payment do you take?
We accept Cash or E-transfer only.
